Anchrages à Saint-Étienne' is an exploration of object and territory. This project was created as part of the "EmpathyCITY" exhibition during the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne 2013, in partnership with the Cité du design, EPASE, the city of Saint-Etienne, and the Carton Plein association. The artworks have outlasted the Biennial, some of them becoming permanent features of the city. They were based around the theme of playing, a subject that allowed artists to break free of standardised models. The junction of rue d'Arcole and rue du Coin forms a small piazza, which, though neglected, had a beautiful tree - but it had become a wasteland full of the bulky rubbish that people kept throwing there every week. This area had been a source of concern to the community, causing lively debate at committee meetings.
