The Roanne to Digoin Canal
in Roanne
-
With a shady towpath running alongside, the gentle flow of the ‘Roanne to Digoin’ canal offers a moment of relaxation by the waterside.
-
Built between 1830 and 1836, the canal is 56 kilometres long and has ten locks; it is fed by the river Loire and links Roanne and Digoin via Briennon. At Digoin, it joins the Canal du Centre and the Canal latéral à la Loire and thus the entire navigable waterway network of France. Follow the ‘quiet canal’ and discover a different and more contemplative side to Roanne.... Enjoy a family cycle ride along the shady towpath that runs alongside this navigable waterway.
