Pedaling in the Loire

Pedaling in the Loire

On the Véloire or on the paths that we travel early in the morning, let’s go for a few pedal strokes! In order to offer more and more marked kilometers and services adapted to cycling tourists, the department has inaugurated in 2019 a 25 km greenway: the Véloire. This one extends from the north of the Loire to Montrond-les-Bains, passing through the city center of Roanne and the banks of the river. A beautiful itinerary to appreciate the mixed landscapes, to discover the territory’s heritage, but also to take advantage of the rest areas.

Around the Véloire, local loops invite cyclists to ride on roads that are less frequented, but just as suitable for cycling. Their levels of difficulty and distances allow everyone to enjoy cycling!

The Véloire

Greenway for all!

The “Véloire”, a 25 km long greenway in the north of the department, invites cyclists, rollerbladers and people with reduced mobility to discover the bucolic landscapes of the Roannais. The mix of landscapes crossed enriches the attractiveness of the itinerary, ending a few blocks from the city center of Roanne.

The emblematic passes of the Loire

La Viarhôna

This 815 km cycling itinerary, which is still under construction, takes tourists by bicycle from the Alpine panoramas to the beaches of the Camargue, crossing the emblematic landscapes of the Côtes du Rhône vineyards and those of southern Provence: hilltop villages, fields of lavender and olive trees, and gastronomic discoveries. ViaRhôna, a true route of civilizations, covers more than 2000 years of history and rich heritage, alternating safe greenways and shared roads. 12km of route on the Pilat Rhodanian side of the Loire, a path near cities steeped in Gallo-Roman history and famous vineyards that unfold their sunny hillsides.

La Via Fluvia

Built on more than 40km, this cycle route will link the Loire to the Rhône, two magnificent rivers that never cross. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced cyclist, with your family or friends, the Via Fluvia offers a rich landscape. Its courses evolve along the kilometers between deep valleys, sleeping volcanoes, intense forests and vertiginous mountains/ More than a bouquet of experiences, the Via Fluvia is an open air museum.

A 360° nature experience to live and share.

Accueil Vélo en Loire

Accueil Vélo is a guarantee that you will be well received by bicycle at a service provider in the department! In conjunction with the France Vélo Tourisme association, the label invites tourism professionals to offer a welcome, services and equipment adapted to cyclists.

On the Véloire, as on the marked routes, there are more than 600 establishments committed to the “Accueil Vélo” label: tourist offices, accommodations, restaurants, bicycle rental and repair stores, leisure facilities and even businesses!
